My Therapist Says...

Started seeing a therapist again. I don't remember if I wrote about the last one, but he would just look at me stupidly and then tell me my earring were pretty. I fail to see how that's relevant to improving my mental health, and I guess it's not, because I never got any less mentally ill. This one actually engages me in conversation. He told me we would be taking baby steps which elicited memories of What About Bob ("Baby steps to 4:00 o'clock. Baby steps to 4:00 o'clock") and told me a story about a frog in boiling water: If you put a frog in boiling water, it will bolt out of the boiling water. If you put a frog in room temperature water and slowly raise the temperature to boiling, it will boil to death. Now I hope my therapist didn't personally conduct this experiment because I'd have to call a frog abuse hotline. But I find it intriguing none the less.

I'm also taking a meditation class starting next Thursday at the Psychic Institute downtown. If I pass that, I can take a healing class. Maybe not the sort of classes the world expects me to take, but they are classes. I am looking forward to them, which I can't say about any of the other one's I took in my early twenties.

I have actually heard that particular piece of wisdom about boiling frogs before. Wracking my brain trying to remember exactly where, but I'm sure it was in something written by either Aaron Sorkin or JMS. Sounds like something one of them would say.

Oh, and What About Bob? was only one of my favorite Bill Murray movies! Here's hoping you enjoy and do well in your classes. And if you ever need to talk, you know I'm barely a phone call away.
